CIS109 - Class Blog: Web 2.0 Tools: Please use this blog to discuss the type of Web 2.0 tools you researched.
The Website I liked the most is
Visual.ly. This website contains a lot
of useful information on many different subjects and its code of ethics is to
provide accurate information (See below for a complete description of their
code of ethics). Through Visual.ly I was
able to find clear illustrations in different topics such as:
1.
USA Presidents – social studies
facts useful for president’s day and other
2.
Tips on English grammar usage –
Language Arts
3.
Languages – Studying abroad
4.
Plenty of science illustrations
5.
Valentine’s Day – Facts on how the
tradition started
6.
Pregnancy Week by Week – any age
health class
7.
Cost of Ipad in classrooms instead
of textbooks
8.
My favorite “Strange Christmas
traditions around the world” http://visual.ly/christmas-madness-strange-christmas-traditions-around-world
Con’s not much information on
mathematics.
Great information on psychology but
very little on sociology.
Ethics
As an organization that both
practices and recognizes quality data-journalism, Visual.ly subscribes to the
code of ethics of the Society of
Professional Journalists and agrees to abide by all of its principles.
We also agree to the following
principles to support data analysis and visualization:
Data will be accurate and verifiable - Visual.ly will not "lie with statistics."
Proper Sourcing & Attribution - Visual.ly will always give credit where due and will do
its own reporting.
Best Practices in Visual
Representation - Visual.ly will not exploit
idiosyncrasies of the human visual system to exaggerate or misrepresent data.
Most succinctly stated, Visual.ly's
policy is one that encompasses accuracy, honesty, and transparency.
While Visual.ly will do our best to
promote these standards, the policy applies only to the visualizations we
create ourselves and those we feature as staff picks, not to those uploaded by
members of the community.
